Interview

Gypzy: I'll start with the stupidest question first. How do you get your ideas?
Trekker: Various places. I spend a ridiculous amount of time thinking about slash. Actually, I have more ideas than I know what to do with. They pop up unannounced and unsolicited. Most of them just flit away after that. The important thing is the ones that stick and won't leave me alone. Like Home. That was a tenacious little plot bunny.

Gypzy: Do you find you can write better in a certain mood, or a certain time of day? Or do you just spend all your time writing?
Trekker: I write best late at night. This can be a problem, cause when I'm feeling really inspired, it keeps me up WAY past my bedtime. <g> I do have to be inspired, cause I just write for fun, so I figure there's no point in forcing it.

Gypzy: And do you have a particular muse who helps you out?
Trekker: Well, I tend to see the characters as my muses. Whether or not they help me really depends on their mood.

Gypzy: Have you ever used a dream as a basis to finish off a story?
Trekker: Well, Tarnished Armor originated from a dream I had about someone falling off a cliff. That image was so firmly entrenched in my mind I had to do SOMETHING with it. The story was basically built around that scene.

Gypzy: I've noticed that most of your stories are quite long. When you do write shorter pieces, do you find it hard to stop the plot from developing further?
Trekker: I think it's deep psychological damage actually... all through school, people told me my writings weren't long enough ("This is only TWO pages... I said THREE to FOUR"). I think I feel inadequate unless my stories hit 50 k or so... Heaven help me, I have a size fixation... um, but seriously, my ideas do tend to turn out more complex than I initially intend them to be.

Gypzy: Finally, why are you a P/Ker?
Trekker: They're so good for each other. Oh, and it's Jim at reviewboy.com's fault. I was innocently reading his review of "The Chute," and he said the magic word... "homoeroticism." The light bulb went on. That was before I even knew what slash was, so I thought I was kind of weird seeing Tom and Harry that way... He corrupted me. Thanks, Jim!

Gypzy: Definitely, thanks Jim! And thank you, Trekker, for your time. It was great talking to you.
